Perhaps you have company coming – you want your home to look attractive and be as comfortable and safe as possible for family and friends, especially if you are hosting overnight guests. Bedding can be an issue so you’ll want a foam or inflatable mattress if you don’t have a guest bedroom or if there just aren’t enough beds available. Smaller kids can use sleeping bags or nap mats while infants may require a portable crib.
More people in the house means increased traffic in the bathroom; it’s a good idea to clear out as much clutter as possible to make the bathroom safe and accommodating. Begin by cleaning the room from top to bottom –bathroom and powder room hardware should be wiped until it sparkles; clean all of the light fixtures and replace any burned out bulbs. Draw the drapes and clean the bath or powder room windows so you can really see what you are doing and what your guests might see.
Once the room is spotless it’s time to take stock of the soft goods – things like shower curtains and bath mats should be replaced on a regular basis; with company coming you’ll want to put your best foot forward. Take a look at your guest towels and make sure you have enough – allow for one washcloth, one hand towel and one bath towel for each overnight guest plus it’s a good idea to have some spare bath mats.
A good set of monogrammed towels makes a great addition to a bath or powder room and are sure to make a lasting impression. Stock up on top quality toiletries such as fancy soaps, shampoos and hand lotions and make up a basket of toiletries in case they have forgotten something.
